Mountains

There are over 150 mountains in China; making 1/3 of China is made up of mountains. The tallest mountain, Mount Everest is at the border of China and Nepal. Among all the 150 mountains, the Five Great Mountains (Wu Yue) are the best mountains to discover.

Mount Tai is the epitome of Chinese Civilization and Chinese Ethos ranked first among the Five Great Mountains in China certified by World Natural & Cultural Heritage and World Geopark. Located in Middle Shandong Province, there are six scenic areas in Mount Tai which includes; tranquil(幽区), spacious(旷区), mysterious(奥区), exquisite(妙区), beautiful (丽区)and elegant areas(秀区). There are also four natural spectacles in Mount Tai, which are the sunrise, the sunset, the sea of clouds, and the golden belt of the yellow river.

 

Best time to travel is from May to November (spring, autumn, & summer)

Mount Huashan (华山 - Western Yue)

 

Recognized as the world’s most adventurous hiking mountain, Mount Huashan is the root of the Chinese nation. It is located in the northeast of Xian City of Shaanxi and Central China. Other than enjoying your time in hiking, you may also see the Taoist cultural relics originated from Quanzhen Taoism along with the amazing manmade scene in this National Tourist Attraction and China’s Most Popular Tourist Attraction in 2017. The total length of Mount Huashan hiking trail is 12.5 km, which is equivalent to 9567 steps.

Mount Hengshan (衡山 - Southern Yue)

Mount Hengshan is a World Natural & Cultural Heritage situated in the middle of Hunan Province. The mountain is a holy land with more than 200 temples for Chinese Taoism and Buddhism. It is said that two of the Sarira of Shakyamuni Buddha are preserved in the stupa of Nantai Temple on Mount Hengshan. As it consisted of more than 200 temples, every temple has its own kind of purposes that includes a religious activity.

Mount Songshan (嵩山- Center Yue)


Well-known as a significant birthplace of Shaolin Martial Arts (Shaolin KungFu) and dreamland of Chinese Kungfu fans in China, it is listed as a World Geopark by UNESCO. It is the principal headstream of Chinese civilization. Mount Songshan are famous for their rare geological heritage, numerous cultural and historic relics left by frequent visits by ancient kings, literates and Buddhists and the mount were renowned as the Natural Geologic Museum.

Mount Heng (恒山 - North Yue)

Located in northernmost in China, Mount Heng is the Mark of Chinese Geography. The mountain is the only historic battlefield among the five great mountains. It is also a national scenic spot and an important ancient fortress. Mount Heng is respected as a holy site for Taoism with a long history. Scenic spots mainly concentrate on Tianling Peak & Cuiping Peak in Mount Heng, which covers about 147.51sq km with an ambient conservation area of 359.62 sq km.
